The overall goal of the Digestive Health Institute is to improve digestive health through collaborative research, communication and education. DHI's research goals include both basic and clinical research on diet, overall digestive health and specific diseases. Research findings will be published in peer review journals and other appropriate print and digital media. DHI will conduct charitable and educational activities to promote increased awareness of digestive health issues, research findings and the latest treatments. To support DHI's primary goals, the organization will seek to secure funding through government and local grants, fund raising events, and private donations.
Update July 26, 2010
Admittedly, the vision of DHI will not be realized overnight. But I can provide a brief update on progress to date.
My main focus in recent months has been the completion of a book on digestive disease and diet called Fast Tract Digestion. You can find an excerpt from the book on this site. Writing this book has been a fairly involved project, but I am determined to get the book out by this fall. The book will highlight the type of research I envision DHI to be involved in.
My other priority has been to complete the articles of incorporation and the filing of all state and federal documentation to ensure that DHI is a functioning 501(c)3 corporation.. This has been completed. The next step will be to recruit board members who have the legal, accounting, or medical expertise along with the passion and vision consistent with the overall goals of DHI.
This project has been lots of hard work and I would likely have given by now up except for one reason. I am convinced that our health care system is broken and diet has been misunderstood and underutilized in treating chronic disease.
